Juanita Fern Rice
7/20/1914 - 10/24/2009





    Juanita Fern Rice, Perkins resident, passed away on October 24, 2009, at the age of 95 years.

    Fern was born in Kiowa County, Okla. July 20, 1914 to Thomas and Rose Anderson.  After graduating from Cooperton (Oklahoma) High School in 1932, she attended college at Cameron, Southwestern, and OSU.  Fern taught in rural public schools 9 years during which time she married Edgar Rice on April 30, 1938. Two children, Gary and Anita, were born to this union.

    After moving to her home of nearly 70 years located 4 miles east of Perkins, she devoted her time to family, home and farm.  Farm life included building and expanding a house, raising crops, and running a dairy.  Retirement allowed travel to the entire continental US and all Canadian provinces. She enjoyed visiting national landmarks and taking each of her five older grandchildren on a tour.  She also enjoyed reading poetry and biographies.

    She is survived by 2 children, 7 adult grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

    Her husband, Edgar, and her 2 brothers preceded her in death.  

    Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 12 Noon at the New Zion Cemetery north of Cushing.
