Obituary for Don L. Roby

Don L. Roby departed this life on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at the age of 94 years. He was born on December 24, 1925, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Claude and Nora Mae (McVey) Roby.
Don was educated in Ponca City Public School, graduating in 1943. He entered the United States Navy in February, 1944, and was discharged in 1946. He served as aviation radioman/gunner on PBY patrol squadron VPB91. He attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, with a degree in petroleum geology in the summer of 1950.
He married Bette LeVangie of St. Petersburg, Florida on October 7, 1949, and to this union four children, Kathleen, Jack, Mark and Nancy were born. Bette preceded him in death on August 27, 2014.
Don joined Gulf Oil Corporation in 1952 and worked as a geologist for over 33 years. After living in Oklahoma City for 36 years, Don and Bette moved to Cushing to be near their daughter, Nancy and her family.
In later years and after retiring, he raised quarter horses and had several state champions at halter.
Don was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) and was very active throughout his adult years, serving as president of the congregation and elder for many years.
Don had a great love for his family, his Lord, and his Church. He was extremely proud of his family.
Survivors include his children, Kathleen Snyder and her husband, David, of Stuart’s Draft, Virginia, Jack Roby and his wife, Cindy, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Mark Roby and his wife, Jeanine, of Tomball, Texas, and Nancy German and her husband, Mick, of Cushing; grandchildren, Andy Snyder and his wife, Elaine, Jennifer Snyder, Amanda Heisey, Amy Walters and her husband, Mike, Leslie Lewis and her husband, Will, Kira Roby, Taylor Berry and her husband Renneth and Michela Palmer; great grandchildren Kabella Dawn German, Rachel Nelson, Zoe Waters, Destiny Waters, Gabe Waters, Valor Kaine ,Elizabeth Dean Lewis, and Logan Roby Anderson; one great-great-grandson Davis Nelson; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend W.R. Rains, Pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, Guthrie, officiating.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, August 18, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in his memory.
A private burial will be held in the Lutheran Cemetery.
