Obituary for Doris Butcher

Doris Ann Butcher passed away on January 2, 2020 with her family by her side. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was born June 19, 1928, in Oilton, OK, a daughter of the late Edgar Allen and Ophia Mae Simonton. Doris graduated from Drumright High School and was offered a full scholarship to Oklahoma State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science. She married the love of her life, Louis Edward Butcher on July 9, 1951 in Salisaw, OK. Their marriage lasted 43 years until his death in 1994. She never remarried.
Doris worked as a medical technician in Cushing until the couple moved to Rockledge, FL when her husband became employed as an engineer for the space program. Soon after moving to Florida, Doris found a passion in Antiques. She owned and operated a small antique store in Rockledge. After many years in Florida, the couple relocated to Barstow, CA where she continued her love of antiques. They returned to Cushing, OK in 1992 after her husband’s retirement. She was a devoted volunteer, an excellent cook and loyal friend. She loved to garden, read and play video poker at the casino. Doris wasn’t one to sit still and could always be caught out working in her yard. She led by example and was the perfect model for unconditional love, humor and inner strength. She cherished her family and was the definition of a true matriarch.
Survivors include her son, Donald & wife Roberta Butcher of Cushing, OK; Daughter in-law, Gina Butcher of Las Cruces, NM; Granddaughter, Crystal & husband Andrew Sleeker of Edmond, OK, two grandsons, Tim & wife Amanda Butcher and Noah Butcher of Las Cruces, NM; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ella; Siblings, Evana & Bill Fulkerson of Enid, OK, Larry Morris of Oilton, OK, sister in-law and great friend Geraldine Simonton of Drumright, OK and other beloved friends and relatives. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma, sister and friend.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Butcher; three sons, David Butcher, Dennis Butcher, and Timothy Butcher; one daughter, Lou Ann Butcher; one brother, Dan Simonton and two sisters, Lois Mitchell and Donna Soloman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday January 25, 2020 at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home in Cushing, OK.
