Obituary for Mary Cochran

Mary Elizabeth Bray Cochran passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 in Cushing, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years.
She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 13, 1927 and was the only child of Clara (Smith) and Earl Bray. The family moved to Cushing in 1937, where Mary lived for the rest of her life. After graduating Cushing High School with the class of 1945, she studied chemistry at Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas for two years.
Mary and her high school sweetheart, Frank Cochran, were married on September 2, 1947 following his return from the Navy. They lived in Norman until 1950, when they returned to Cushing to work with the family business, Earl Bray Inc., later Bray Lines Inc. The couple had three children, Steven Bray, Frank Edwin, II, and Kaye Louise. Frank preceded her in death on June 29, 2008.
Family was a central part of Mary’s life and she cherished the opportunity to bring everyone together over bowls of chicken noodle soup. In addition to this love of a full house, she and Frank enjoyed the opportunity to travel and experience the world together.
Mary was extremely proud of her role helping establish the Cushing Hospital Auxiliary in 1976, where she served as President, held many offices, and volunteered in the snack bar during her nearly 40 years of service. She was particularly known for her chicken salad recipe which is still in use by the Auxiliary today. She also helped found a Head Start center and a special needs school in Cushing.
Mary was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and was very active with the United Methodist Women, serving as president three different times. She also was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and P.E.O. for over 50 years. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, needlepoint and painting.
Mary is survived by many loving family members including: her children, Steven Bray Cochran and his wife Debbie of Cushing, Frank Edwin Cochran and his wife Marianne Kokojan of Oklahoma City, and Kaye Cochran Corprew and her husband Wayne of Houston, TX; her grandchildren, the late Hayley McCarty, Lindsey Burns and husband Brandon of Oklahoma City, Jenny Cochran of Little Rock, AR, Sara Cochran of Columbia, MO, Whit Cochran and his wife Rachel of Owasso, Katherine Cochran of Milwaukee, WI, Ben Cochran of San Francisco, CA, Alyssa Corprew of Mount Juliet, TN, William Corprew of Plymouth, MN, Kevin Corprew and wife Cahrrie of Fort Collins, CO; her bonus grandchildren, Marie Stone and husband Paul of Oklahoma City, Michelle Kleckner and her husband Harley of Edmond, Megan Babb and husband Mike Fastner of Minneapolis, MN, and Michael Babb, Jr. and wife Erin of Nashville, TN; 20 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
