Obituary for Mary Jane Miller

Mary Jane McCoy Miller, age 94, passed peacefully into Eternal life on Monday morning, May 13, 2019, at Red Bud Assisted Living in Perkins, Oklahoma.
The daughter of the late Nathan Casaver McCoy and Mildred Uldine Reynolds McCoy, Mary Jane (also known as Janie) was born on April 2, 1925, in Cushing, Oklahoma. She was educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1943.
Janie continued her education at Ward Belmont Junior College (now Belmont University) and graduated in 1945. Then she attended Oklahoma A and M College in Stillwater, became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. In 1963 she was granted a Master’s degree from her Alma Mater, which had been renamed Oklahoma State University. Janie was also a summer school student at the University of Mexico in Mexico City (1944) and at the Inst. Tech. y de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey, Mexico (1962).
Janie and Lt. Loel R. Miller, USN, were married on March 13, 1947. They had one child, Sue Carmel, whose father was killed in a Navy plane crash on January 28, 1954, the day before her sixth birthday.
Thereafter, Jane owned a dress shop before moving with Carmel in 1963 to Fair Oaks, California, to be an instructor of Spanish in the Foreign Language Department at Bella Vista High School. It was a time of great personal happiness, professional achievement, and enduring friendship.
Five years later, on April 20, 1968, she married Warren Thomas Boles. They relocated near Talihina, Oklahoma, where she taught Spanish and Art at the local High School. One of the first students she met, Joe Mansour, became a close friend for the rest of her life.
Returning to Cushing in 1971, she commuted to Yale High School. She combined her teaching with serving as the school librarian.
Following retirement she enjoyed travel, (especially to California and Mexico) and her pets.
Janie was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples Women Fellowship, Crusader Sunday School class, Retired Teachers Luncheon Group, P.E.O., and in her younger years, Beta Sigma Phi.
In addition to Lt. Loel R. Miller, Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan C. McCoy and Mildred McCoy Kochler, stepfather, Fred Kochler, and brother-in-law, Charles Donald Cline.
She is survived by her daughter Sue Carmel Miller Pinkerton, sister Ruth McCoy Cline, grandson Roy Warren Pinkerton and wife Melissa, great-grandchildren, Zara Jean and Roy Levi, of Leander, Texas; step-children: Warren D. Boles and wife Lynda of McCloud, Oklahoma, Curtis K. Boles and wife Sandy of Guthrie, Oklahoma, and Jennie Boles Pratt and husband Tommy of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and special life-long friend Joe Mansour and wife Pam of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, with Pastor Jim Wilhelm officiating.
