Obituary for Norma Jean Lumpkin

Norma Jean Barrett Lumpkin passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 in Hobart, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Willie Wilson Barrett.
On December 20, 1954, she married Billy Matthew Lumpkin and to this union two sons were born, Ricky Dale and Mark Arlyn Lumpkin.
She was a constant companion to Billy, who was blind and she was a devoted mother to her children. They made their home in the Lexington, Oklahoma area and resided at “the farm” at the end of Lumpkin Lane in Ripley, Oklahoma. Billy and Norma celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing.
On December 25, 1954 Norma and Billy were baptized into The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Lexington, Oklahoma. They traveled many miles together with the Brethren in several states and were very active in the Stillwater and Carney Church of the Firstborn.
Norma Jean will be remembered as a homemaker as well as working at Ripley School as a cook for 9 years and a painter for a private contractor for 9 years. She will also be remembered for her cooking, especially her homemade pies. She worked on “The Farm” helped with the gardening, taking care of animals and whatever was needed. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Billy Lumpkin; son Mark Lumpkin; sisters Millie Gwaltney and Pat Gipson; Brothers, Lloyd Barrett, Dale Barrett, Troy Barrett, Ray Barrett and Arthur Barrett; grandchildren, Cody Matthew Lumpkin and Caleb Mathew Lumpkin.
She is survived by her son Ricky and his wife Susan Lumpkin, Sister Joyce Bernice Cramer and her husband John. Sisters-in-law Lenora Barrett and Ruth Barrett; Grandchildren Vicky Lumpkin, Casey Lumpkin and his wife Katie, Caleb Lumpkin; Courtney Wilson and her husband Sam, Thomas Lumpkin and fiancé Rae, and Colton Lumpkin. Great-grandchildren Karissa, Jonah, Autumn, Harley, Kyleigh, Jozie, Eli, Oaklee, Hartlie, Rylo, Rowan and Jenni, in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including her caregiver Velma Dukes of Hobart, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Stillwater Church of the Firstborn with Brother Keith Griffith officiating.
Burial will follow in the Tryon Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Friday evening, June 28, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
