Obituary for Ruth Coonrod

Ruth Bowman Coonrod, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, was born on February 1, 1919 and died peacefully on October 17, 2019. She was 100 years old.
Ruth was the fourth of nine children born to James Labon Bowman and Fannie Spillars Bowman. She was raised with her three brothers and five sisters in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
Ruth married Irvin Edwin Coonrod on October 10, 1942, making Stillwater their home while Irvin attended college.
Irvin’s work later took them to Colorado, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico. Along the way three sons were born to them: Glen “Wes” Irvin, Larry Lee, and Billy Jon. Ruth especially enjoyed the summers that they spent as a family at their cabin in Palmer Lake, Colorado.
While living in Beaumont, Texas, Ruth attended and later taught at a beauty college. During this time she also began a study of the Bible. Ruth was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1970. She enjoyed sharing her faith with others.
In 2006 Ruth moved from Stillwater to Ponca City, Oklahoma, to be near family, treasuring the time she spent with them.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Wes Coonrod and wife Frances of Ponca City, OK; Billy Jon Coonrod and wife Ginny of Anaheim, CA; daughter-in-law Jean Coonrod of Ponca City, OK; one sister, Thelma Harshbarger; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Ruth was a loyal caregiver for her husband, Irvin, who preceded her in death in 1997 after a long illness. She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Coonrod.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October, 27, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 915 N. Birch, Ponca City,
