Obituary for Melvin Donald Brown

Melvin Donald “Don” Brown, 95, passed away Tuesday morning, March 24, 2020, in the Linwood Village Nursing Home.
He was born in Cushing, Oklahoma on September 30, 1924, to George Thomas Brown and Mary Lucy Wade Brown, whom he married after the death of his first wife.
Donald attended Happy Valley Grade School, then Cushing High School for one year before graduating from Kendrick High School in Lincoln County. He had a long career in the oil field, working first as a roughneck and driller, then retiring as a tool pusher from Grace Petroleum.
Donald married Velma V. Wolff on August 5, 1944, at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer Cushing, Oklahoma and was confirmed in the church on Psalm Sunday, 1945. He remained a member until his death.
He will be remembered for his great love of his cattle.
He is survived by four children and their spouses: Phyllis J. Brown, Judith A. Bush (Ronald), Melvin L. (Cassie Bond) Brown, and Sherry L. Jenkins (Robert); ; one son-in-law, Gene A. Smith; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Patricia A. Byers, Pamela A Betz (Chris), Matthew W. Smith (Kendra Richards), Gena L. Edmundson (Brian, Sr.) Ryan E. Bush (Jennifer Young), Melanie R., Kelly M., Derek E., and Dustin A. Brown, and Misty D. Hall (Steven). 11 great-grandchildren: Alicia Woods (Dexter), Amanda Byers, Angela Byers, Madison Betz, Evelyn and Caleb Smith, Colt and Cash Bush, Hadlee Brown, Braxtin and Jamisen Hall; 1 great-great-grandchild, Samuel Byers; 2 step-grandchildren, Donna Mayes and Thomas H. Brown, Jr.; 4 step great-grandchildren and spouse: Emily, Hannah and Zachary Mayes and Brian Edmundson, Jr. (Andreea); 5 step great-great-grandchildren, Axton and Sawyer Mayes, Ty Fields/Brown, Brianna and Gabriella Edmundson; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 children, Donna S. Brown Smith, Thomas L. and Ricky A. Brown; one daughter-in-law, Anita Ceresna Brown; one son-in-law, Thomas H. Brown, Sr.; three siblings, Goldie M. Crown, Georgia L. Jennings and Jimmilia V. Taylor-Giles; and five half-siblings, Albert M., Pearl and Theodore W. Brown, Elsie F. DeGraw and Julia Kalcich.
Private graveside services were held in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer Cemetery with Reverend W.R. Rains, minister of the Zion Lutheran Church, Guthrie, officiating.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
